Door de hardheid en de kruisdraad matig tot moeilijk verwerkbaar. Wordt zelden afgewerkt, want bangkirai krijgt soms windbarstjes. Bangkirai kan ook pine-holes hebben. De RED BALAU schaaft gemakkelijker Constructions lourdes, terrasses, escaliers, sols pour trafic intensif, bardage, rampes d'escalier, fonds de wagon, cuves, ponts, travaux hydrauliques, bois de jardin. Le bois doit être sèché lentement pour éviter l'apparition de fissures. A cause de la dureté et du contrefil, le bois est difficilement ou moyennement travaillable. Finition rarement fine car formation possible de fissures de surface. Le red balau est plus facilement rabotable. Après un séchage lent, peu de risque de déformation. Pré-percer est nécessaire. Lors de l'usinage, une poussière irritante peut se dégager.
